I did that and apache and spamd will not start.
any ideas?

i used Debian 3.1 in the end all running fine with np so far

no idea about debian though, never used that and for usage purposes i have to run BSD on this box.

spamd still won't start gives empty message from utility error...

apache is running now though, and by doing http://ip address or http://www.mydomain.net i get the apache page... so now on to re-installing Plesk <G>

I have it working great on 5.4R no real problems at all, even did a full restore from my redhat9 box without any problems other than changing a few paths on some customers php scripts from /home/httpd/vhosts to /home/vhosts

I saw a post in the forums here where someone stated that they only host on BSD boxes, i was thinking of finding that post again, and asking them if they'd be inclined to write out the steps they took when installing BSD 5.3, what selections they had made during the original install and what ports they had installed prior to installing the Plesk package....

I know that i'm by no stretch of the imagination a *plesk* or *nix guru, but it can't be THAT hard to do, or else SW-Soft wouldn't have created the package for that platform..... and once i see the steps i'm almost certian i'll feel like a total dumba$$ when i see what i've done / not done that's causing me the issues.
But i'm more than willing to "feel" that way if i can learn something, and get these issues handled too in the meantime.

TIA
Bill

no need to install anything additional to freebsd ahead of time accept perl 5.8.7. If you want the firewall then you add IPFIREWALL to the kernel and reboot.
Installing Plesk to a base Install of freebsd will work fine..

yeah i found out that wasn't no easy task either the port tries to install 5.8.6 so i finally found stable.tar.gz (5.8.7) and saved that file localy.
well worst case i get more practice anyway i'm only going on the 4th or 5th time trying to get this on BSD LOL

Thanks
Bill

bsd must be the most stable combination compared to the other operating systems.

Good luck...

Thanks,
you know it's funny you say that...i've run plesk on FC2 for almost a year with absolutly no issues what-so-ever, but as i've ventured deeper into the *nix based OS's everyone raves about BSD, and because of my latest partnering with a hosting company i've been put in a position where using BSD is almost mandatory...sooo i hope it's as good as everyone says <G>
