For all you that are having ftp repository backup issues I think I have stumbled across the solution.
The earlier PSA-proftpd has bugs. anything earlier than 1.3.2 will not work (apparently) in the upgrade.
I have updated using:
yum upgrade psa-proftpd
Then i configured a new ftp repository on another server and it works just fine!!!
Let me know if this works for you, and maybe the migration issues are similar.
