Plesk 12.5 preview feedback thread

This is how PHP-FPM works by design, since there's no need to run a service that's not in use.
But the problem is when I choose PHP handler for website using nginx+PHP-FPM which is previously stopped the newly created PHP-FPM pool is not started.

Output of plesk bin php_handler --list

Output of plesk version

Product version: 12.1.23
Build date: 2015/05/22 19:00
Build target: CentOS 6
Revision: 341384
Architecture: 64-bit
Wrapper version: 1.2

Sitebuilder (WPB)

I noticed that the test key does not allow WPB to be used. Is there any way to get a test key that enables this?

Plesk 12.1.24 preview is out:
  1. Plesk supports MariaDB 10.
  2. Users can specify database user roles while creating or editing MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server database users.
  3. Users can improve the performance of PHP applications by switching on the PHP accelerator module in the website's PHP settings. By default, the APC module is activated for PHP versions earlier than 5.5, xcache for PHP 5.4.x, and Zend OPcache for PHP 5.5 or later. WinCache is activated for all PHP version on Plesk for Windows.
  4. The ability to log in to Plesk automatically from external resources was implemented.
  5. Administrators can view and manage the list of Plesk interface languages by using the new locales command-line tool.
  6. Administrators can retrieve information about existing mail accounts and their aliases by using the command-line calls mail --list and mail --info.
  7. A new user interface theme was applied to Plesk Installer.

Did a fresh reinstall, worked this time.

however mod_pagespeed crashed Apache:

[root@ns514904 ~]# sudo rpm -U mod-pagespeed-*.rpm
Redirecting to /bin/systemctl start atd.service

package mod-pagespeed-beta-1.9.32.3-4448.x86_64 is already installed
[root@ns514904 ~]# /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all

Even when removing mod_pagespeed, it complains about the missing module. I tried with pagespeed on and off.

It is not good idea to install beta third-party modules on Plesk server. We do not officially support any beta software.

Not sure if I am the only one who hates the user interface for the preview version or other people feel the same.
I mean it looks awful to me - it kind of reminds me of the terrible Zpanel interface - and the majority of us hate Zpanel

here is the user interface in the preview :

here is how Zpanel looks like (Sentora , a fork of Zpanel, looks exactly like this as well:

I am not a big fan of current or the preview user interface
this is my personal opinion but I think both themes look out of place and old.

for example, have a look at these admin interfaces:
http://www.keenthemes.com/preview/metronic/theme/templates/admin3/
http://www.keenthemes.com/preview/metronic/theme/templates/admin2/
http://lambdathemes.in/admin2/

I think these are examples of modern themes,
would appreciate if anyone else provide their feedback regarding the user interface

Jim, thanks for feedback.
More different color themes will be available in the final release - we hope you'll find one which you like.

I don't think the issue is with colors, did you have a chance to look at the examples I provided? maybe same approach for the design of the next version?
if we put it up to a vote, do you think you can implement some of those design?

Hi,
12.1 is looking superb - great work - can't wait to use it -- so many great new features.

I wondering about WordPress compatibility and PHP-FPM Nginx -- will this work with Process PHP with Nginx?

WordPress uses .htaccess rules for permalinks /pretty URLs (also, many some WP plugins write custom rules to .htaccess), but if we're using PHP-FPM and Nginx to process PHP, then there is no .htaccess and WordPress won't work -- is this correct?

Thanks again.

Yes, I looked at the examples – they are very nice dashboards with a lot of data, numbers, charts etc.

I think it is quite possible that Plesk will have a dashboard like these, but we need your help in telling us which exact information should be presented there and why, which problem it is going to solve, how it will help you in your business. The better we understand the problems - the better will be result of UI design.

It is a good idea to post feature requests at http://plesk.uservoice.com/ so everyone can vote. And please provide us with as much details as possible – just “I do not like this UI, make it better” will not work ;)

My biggest complaint is that the 12.1 download servers are too darn slow! Multiple "too slow, trying different mirror" when trying to install. This has been over the last week on multiple servers:

Yes, I agree. I can explain some of the UI implementations which I think will improve the functionality of the control panel

A) The dashboard (main page of the control panel)
What I like about this design (http://lambdathemes.in/admin2/index.html) is how the main control panel contains of widgets. Something like WordPress dashboard where the user can drag/drop widgets with different functionality. If you guys could implements such functionality where we can drag and drop or add widgets to main dashboard it would be awesome.
Some widget examples would be : Server info such as mem/disk usage in a graph, basic statistic about the account such as number of users/websites/databases/email accounts, recently error occurred, and similar widgets

B) Allow the user to change font size of the template
I mean the menu items and contents are set to 13px which in my opinion is way too small.

C) Break up the sections into more subsections.
If you go to "Server Management > Tools & Settings >" you can see 9 other sections. Each has at least 5 different subsections. So Tools & Settings section, contains around 62 subsections ! Can't we just have those 9 subsections as a main section and not inside Tools and Settings? it would be much easier to access those sections. Rather then going directly to Tools and Settings and start looking for stuff.

D)....

Z) Just don't make it look like Zpanel :(
I hate to say this since it is not very reasonable, but it looks very much like Zpanel and I it is killing me. Not sure about other people but Zpanel has a very bad reputation among those who started to use an open source control panel. Seeing the current control panel just reminds me of those nasty days I had with Zpanel and it just doesn't look right.

I will keep updating this post if I come up with something new
